THE SUCCESS PROGRAM IS COMPRISED OF FOUR COMPONENTS Year I - Sociology (Freshmen) Year II - Study Skills (Sophomores) Years III and IV - Mentorship (Juniors/Seniors)
YEAR I - SOCIOLOGY Freshmen enrolled in Sociology will receive an elective credit for the class. The curriculum has been created by the Success Program faculty. The curriculum exposes students to interesting teenage related topics such as: character education, conflict resolution, anger management, study skills, and drug and alcohol abuse. All freshmen also have the opportunity to work with designated mentors during each class period. As they work with their mentors, students have the opportunity to complete homework, makeup work, or study for tests from other subjects.

YEAR II - STUDY SKILLS All rising Success sophomores have the opportunity to enroll in Year II of the Success Program if they feel they can benefit from the resources offered by the program. All sophomores enrolled in Year II will receive an elective credit. Sophomores are responsible for several independent projects during the school year. Sophomores will also have the opportunity to complete any homework, makeup assignments and any projects or papers. Students also have the unique opportunity to work with the severely disabled students in our school on a daily basis.

YEARS III AND IV - (MENTORSHIP) All Juniors and Seniors at Manchester have the opportunity to receive an elective credit by becoming a mentor to the freshmen in the Success Program. However, over 80% of our 50 mentors were in Year I of the Success Program as freshmen. The responsibilities of the mentors include, but are not limited to the following: assisting with homework completion, studying for tests and quizzes, organizational skills, study habits and conflict mediation.

DOES THE SUCCESS PROGRAM WORK? Since the beginning of the Success Program 5 years ago, despite the extraordinary size of the freshmen class, the freshmen failure rate has drastically been reduced.
1999-00(Before Success Program) 611 freshmen - 10.3% failure rate
2000-01(1st year of Success Program) 667 freshmen - 8.9% failure rate
2001-02 685 freshmen - 6.4% failure rate
2002-03 636 freshmen - 5.3% failure rate
2003-04 623 freshmen - 2.7% failure rate
2004-05 643 freshmen - 2.9% failure rate
